About Howard

Howard Meyer

Howard Meyer has been writing, directing and producing theater for over 25 years.

His most recent original work, Paint Made Flesh, was a semi-finalist at the 2015 O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and PlayPenn and selected by The Last Frontier Theatre Conference. His play, Radiance, was a two-time semi-finalist (2011, 2012) at the ONPC & P and a finalist at the 2012 Hormel New Works Festival at the Phoenix Theatre (the 2013 production featured Obie award-winning actor Chris McCann). Radiance also received a weeklong developmental workshop at the 2015 Drama League featuring Lou Liberatore (Tony Award Nominee, Burn This).

Mr. Meyer received the 50 for 50 Award at ArtsWestchester’s 50th anniversary, in part for his service co-founding Axial Theatre, now in its 19th season, developing new voices and bringing new plays and re-imagined revivals to Westchester County, NY. Under his artistic direction, Axial has produced over 80 premieres and revivals. Deepening its commitment to the community, each year Axial trains 120-150 students of all ages in acting and playwriting. Students have enrolled in leading national conservatories, and both teen and adult students have graduated to important roles in Film, TV and the New York theater.

Axial has also served as the perfect venue for Mr. Meyer to hone his own playwriting skills. His play, Maybe Never Fell, was produced to critical praise there in 2016, and was then presented as a staged reading at New York’s famed Cherry Lane Theatre in 2017 (both directed by Jenn Haltman).

WELCOME, This is a Neighborhood Watch Community was presented at Axial in 2010, directed by Drama Desk award winner Josh Hecht. Featuring LABrynth Theater Company co-founder David Deblinger and Emmy-nominated actor Jon Lindstrom, it also received many positive notices, including from The New York Times. It was subsequently invited for readings at The Barrow Group, Naked Angels and LA’s Pacific Resident Theatre.

His short play, Loss, was commissioned and produced by Half Moon Theatre as part of their 2016 short play festival.

Lost In Paradise is under an option for a motion picture. Howard’s other plays include Senescence, The Kiss, All That’s Fair, The Contract, (co-created with playwright Linda Giuliano and the Axial Theatre Company) The Number Trilogy (Three, Five, Twenty), AngelBeast, Cherrie & Jerry and the monologues, Calculus and Horus. His plays have had readings at prestigious venues including The Lark, ArtsWestchester and Half Moon Theatre.
